In just a few months, the Marvel
Comics Universe that we all know will cease to exist. The news was announced a
couple of hours ago at a special presentation where SVP and Executive Editor
Tom Brevoort, and Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso revealed that following the collision
between both the 616 and Ultimate Universes and new Marvel Universe will arise,
but how does one of the responsible for making Marvel what it is today feels?
“It’s
probably good,” said Lee from his Beverly Hills office. “Anything they do
that’s unexpected and different usually captures the attention of the fans.
People will want to follow it to see what happens and where it will lead.
Marvel cannot keep doing the same stories over and over again. You always have
to come up with new angles and new approaches to things. I think it’s probably
a good idea. It sounds intriguing to me.”
However,
despite knowing how the business work and the need there is to keep fans engaged,
he confesses that he has an emotional attachment to that original universe.
“Of
course I have an emotional attachment to the original Marvel Universe, because
I was so involved in it,” he said. “But that doesn’t mean I expect it to be
that way forever. It might be better under this new approach. I’m eager to see
what might happen.”
