Ethan Hawke Says He Came Close To Playing Doctor Strange

Before we knew that Benedict Cumberbatch had been chosen by Marvel to play Stephen Strange in their upcoming Doctor Strange adaptation, many names including that of actor Ethan Hawke were reported has contenders for the role.

Now speaking to MTV's Happy Sad Confused podcast, Hawke, who worked with Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson on Sinister revealed that he came "as close as anybody could" of playing the role, and that although he is out of that race he would still like to be in one of Marvel's upcoming movies.

"There’s a tremendous amount of salesmanship that’s now really important to a studio like that,” he said. "It’s a tremendous amount of time in your life where you’re working, and you’re not acting. We’re living in the age of Marvel .... They’re making movies at a high rate, and they’re making them successfully. I’m totally open to doing something like that."
