The nominations for the 87th
Academy Awards have been announced, and there are a couple of surprises. The
Lego movie was left out of the race for Best Animation, Bennett Miller gets a
Best Director nom for Foxcatcher despite being left out of the Best Picture
race. American Sniper lands a couple of big nominations including Best Actor
for Bradley Cooper and Best Picture. Selma manages to get a Best Picture
nomination but surprisingly fails to get Ava DuVernay and David Oyelowo best
director and actor recognitions. Also on the snub list are
Ralph Fiennes, and Jake Ghyllenhall for their performances in The Grand
Budapest Hotel, and Nightcrawler respectively, and surprise, surprise another
movie another nomination, Meryl Streep manages somehow to get nominated for
Into the Woods.
In addition only Richard Linklater and Cathleen Sutherland will go to stage if Boyhood wins best picture since the Academy refused to credit John Sloss from Cinetic Media, and Jonathan Sehring IFC Films president as co-producers despite their contribution to the film.
