The cast for David Ayer's
Suicide Squad has just been announced confirming that the majority of the rumors
about the main cast were true. With the exception of model/actress Cara
Delevigne, actors Jared Leto, Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Tom Hardy, Jai
Courtney were all previously reported to be in some stage of negotiations with
the studio to headline in the film.
In some previous comments,
director David Ayer talked about the film as it being like the 1967 film The
Dirty Dozen, where the lead character must train a team of soldiers to
parachute behind enemy lines during WWII and assassinate some Nazi top ranks.
The twist is that those soldiers are convicted criminals, murderers, and
rapists, some of them even on death row. Therefore, it's easy to draw a
comparison between this film and Suicide Squad's source material.
Now via a couple of Tweets,
DC's Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns, and director David Ayer tease more specifically,
what we might end up seeing.
Could not be more excited for the cast of Squad! @jfostrander 's run is one of the best and underrated in comics history IMO. Start reading.

John Ostrander's run of
Suicide Squad ran between the late 80's and early 90's, and began with the
Trial by Fire, which saw Amanda Waller building the Squad, or Task Force X for
the very first time and put them to the test.
What do you think?
