Although J.J. Abrams had some
hesitation about opening his mystery box and releasing a teaser for Star Wars:
The Force Awakens so far ahead of the film's release date, Disney went ahead
and released it anyway. There were a few surprises like the new droid, and some
reminiscence in the form of the Millennium Falcon, but also some questions like
who gave that ominous narration? Well that was quickly put to rest when Andy
Serkis revealed that he was the man behind the voice, however his confession
led to another question, just who or what he's playing in the new Star Wars
installment?
Given his status as the go to
guy when it comes to performance capture many are speculating that Serkis has
two roles in the film, one live-action and the other in CG form.
Speaking to Entertainment
Weekly, the actor puts all that cards in the table and gives us all the details
on his character. Just kidding.
“That is the character,”
Serkis says about the voice in the teaser, adding that “there’s no digital
manipulation. That’s just me.”
In regards to whom he might be
playing in the film, the actor plays shy and doesn't offer much.
“I have to be very careful
about how I answer these questions. The character … He’s been through some
stuff.”
Serkis also debunked the
rumors that he's playing more than one character in Star Wars: The Force
Awakens.
“No that’s not true at all. I
can say I only play one character.”
But again, he is the
performance capture guru surely Abrams and company had him do something in that
world?
“I can’t say a single thing
about that. I’m sorry!” Serkis says with grin on his face. “These things will all
come out in the fullness of time, I promise.”
