Before
it even began, Disney showed some confidence in their first Star Wars creation
and renewed Rebels for a second season. Premature? Yes. Did it pay off? So far,
yes. So far the show's ratings have been on par with other animated shows, and the
adventures of Ezra, Zeb, Kanan, Hera, Sabine, and Chopper have clicked with
critics.
Unless
it's something along the lines of True Detective (8 eps.) or Luther (4 eps.), no
studio, creator, or producer can predict when a show will end, I mean they will
run with it until the numbers start to decline, or something truly bug happens
that forces the show to shut down. However, Rebels are slightly different as it
has a very specific and finite timeline since it is set in between episodes III
and IV.
According
to /Film, who recently revealed a "scoop" regarding Gareth Edwards (confirmed
by Schmoes Know's Christian Harloff) Star Wars spin-off, claims that Disney and
Lucasfilm are planning to run Star Wars Rebels for about three or four season
before starting a completely new animated series, with new characters, set in
the new Star Wars era.
Take
it with a grain of salt, but if or when the time comes will they kill the show even
if the numbers are good, and both critics and fans love it?
What
do you think?
