Downton Abbey's star Poppy
Drayton is the first piece of casting news we have since news broke this past July that MTV, Jon Favreau and
Smallville's Al Gough and Miles Millar were going to adapt Terry Brook's famous
fantasy novels, Shannara.
According to Deadline,
Poppy will play Amberle, an Elf princess, which the site describes as being "agile,
fit and capable, she has become the first female to be accepted as one of the
Chosen, the special group of Elves responsible for the protection and care of
the ancient Ellcrys tree. But unlike the rest of the Chosen, Amberle’s
dangerous and heroic journey is just beginning."
It
seems that the show will begin by adapting Brook's second novel,
The Elfstones of Shannara, and will have TMNT (2014) director Jonathan Liebesman
helm the first couple of episodes.
The series
is set after the decline of civilization in the "great wars", in a
World where magic has replaced science.
