The
following isn't by any means the confirmation that director James Wan (Fast
& Furious 7) is being lined up to helm one of the upcoming DC films, but it
seems like New Line President and CCO Toby Emmerich is at least looking at him for
one.
"New
Line has always been a big believer in great filmmakers emerging from the
horror genre, and he has the potential to grow like Frank Darabont did, from
writing A Nightmare On Elm Street 3 to writing and directing The Shawshank
Redemption. James will make an
important movie for New Line and Warner Bros or DC, and that is definitely part
of the plan, and a reason for bringing him into the family. He’s
the only overall director with a deal here, because we see him as a class of
one."
As
always take it with a grain of salt, but consider this. As a subsidiary of
Warner Bros., New Line is in charge of developing Shazam - Wan has written,
directed and produced a good amount of successful movies for the studio - He's
currently in post-production for Fast & Furious 7 starring Dwayne Johnson -
Dwayne Johnson is set to star as Black Adam in Shazam (insert Lion King quote
here). So if you take this and add the "James will make an important
movie for New Line and Warner Bros or DC,…"
quote from Emmerich, one would think that Wan is being eyed to helm Shazam.
What
do you think? Too much of a stretch?
