It was rumored awhile
back that Marvel and Sony were hatching some sort of plan to bring Spider-Man
into the MCU. The rumor gained a bigger foothold when it was revealed that
Captain America 3 would focus on the Civil War storyline, of which Spider-Man
is an important part of.
Today Marvel Studios
President Kevin Feige held a press conference and announced their Phase 3
plans, which was then followed by a Q&A with reporters.
Many questions were
asked, one of which was precisely, Will Spider-Man appear in any of the
announced (Cap 3, Avengers) films?
"Anything that
wasn’t specifically and obviously revealed today is either not true at all, or
still rumor until it’s worked out."
Let's not focus
entirely on that end part for now.
Captain America:
Civil War will be the sum of all that has happened in the MCU, especially
Avengers: Age of Ultron, and not a direct adaptation of the comic run. So if
you think about it, how would Spider-Man fit into all that if he wasn't part of
all the previous movies? Would Marvel just stuff him in there? I might be wrong
but I'm not seeing Kevin Feige, who so far has made a stellar job at crafting
such a successful plan, making such a decision.
Also, Black Panther
is making his first appearance in Cap 3, before his solo outing in 2017, and
according to Feige he is "definitively a
big part of Civil War", so why would they shoehorn
Spider-Man in? It doesn't seem like he would have a chance to shine, I mean
Captain America, Black Panther, Iron Man, Falcon, Winter Soldier, were would
Spidey fit? It looks like nowhere.
Having said that, it
is possible that Marvel is still in negotiations with Sony over the rights of
the character, otherwise why let the possibility hang like that - "still rumor
until it’s worked out "-
What do you think?
