Total Geek managed to get a couple of
words of director J.J. Abrams, when he was shooting some scenes from the
upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII in the Forest of Dean near Wales.
While not getting much from the
director, the reporter was able to get a few bits and pieces of information, mainly
about setting the right tone for the film, which would continue throughout the
franchise. In addition, TG was able to sense that they are trying to distance
themselves from the other Disney franchises, mainly Marvel's MCU.
"There was a lot of business
talk at the resort, and with Kathleen Kennedy also heading back and forth the
set, it seems there was a lot to discuss. One thing I do know is that there was
a bit of strategizing when it comes to the tone of the upcoming sequel trilogy.
It was mentioned that Lucasfilm is aiming to differentiate themselves from the
Marvel and Pixar brands within the Disney umbrella. To that end, they’re aiming
for more of a unified, cohesive tone with the sequel movies… more so than
Marvel’s MCU efforts, which tend to mix and match different film styles to keep
things fresh."
While there TG also managed to
overhear some crew members talk about the scale of the scenes they were preparing
at Puzzlewood, and they were huge battle scenes in the forests with thousands
of extras.
Star Wars: Episode VII opens on December 18, 2015 and
stars Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew,
Kenny Baker, Lupita Nyong'o, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar
Isaac, Andy Serkis, Gwendoline Christie, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow,
Crystal Clarke, Pip Anderson, Miltos Yerolemou, and Greg Grunberg.
