Last October, Fox made an unusual move and ordered Travis Beacham's unknown show, Hieroglyph go straight to series. The 13-episode series was described by former Fox Chairman, Kevin Reilly as "a show about deceit, sex, intrigue in the court and fantastical goings-on—no better place to set that than ancient Egypt.”
Last month Reilly resigned his position after the
upfronts, and it's safe to assume that with his departure, the network will
return to their standard way of doing things.
As for the show, it seems that the network wasn't all
that happy with the results of the experiment and pulled the plug on the show,
before it even premiered.
According to THR, Hieroglyph will not be moving
forward due to "creative reasons". Having only filmed the pilot, the
writers were in the process writing the rest of the season, under the watchful
eye of the show creator Travis Beacham, and showrunner Anna Fricke. The show
was scheduled to start production on the other 12 episodes later on this year
for an early 2015 premiere, but the scripts were not satisfying Fox, who
dropped the show before they had too much invested on it.
