According to TV Line, actress Carol Kane, most known for Annie Hall, Dog
Day Afternoon, Princess Bride, Girls, and Hester Street, which earned her an
Academy Award nomination, has joined the upcoming Fox show, Gotham, created by Bruno Heller
Kane is the first post-pilot casting that the show has made, and will play none
other than Gertrude Kapelput, who fans of Gregg Hurwitz's Penguin: Pain and Prejudice will recognize as Oswald Cobblepot, aka The Penguin's mother.
TV Line says that Gertrude will be a "proud and faded beauty with delusions of
grandeur."
Gotham stars Ben McKenzie (Detective
Gordon), Donal Logue (Detective Bullock), Zabryna Guevara (Captain
Essen), Sean Pertwee (Alfred), Jada Pinkett Smith (Fish Mooney), Robin
Lord Taylor (Penguin), Erin Richards (Barbara Kean), Drew Powell (Butch
Gilzean), David Mazouz (Bruce Wayne), Camren Bicondova (Selina Kyle, aka
Catwoman), and Corey Michael Smith (The Riddler).
