Welcome and let's start where we always start, by the
end. In tenth is director Dave Green's sci-fi/found footage/family friendly
adventure Earth to Echo. After eight weeks, the Angelina Jolie lead Maleficent
continues to thrive in the chart, and currently sits in ninth. In eighth is
Hiccup, and Toothless in How to Train Your Dragon 2. In seventh are the homies,
Jonah Hill, and Channing Tatum in 22 Jump Street. Melissa McCarthy's funny road
trip Tammy sits in sixth, and right above her is Michael Bay's Transformers:
Age of Extinction, which is getting ready to be one of the highest grossing
movies of the year, I'm sorry it won't be the highest grossing movie of the
year IT IS the highest grossing movie of the year (so far). Coming in fourth is
Jason Segel, and Cameron Diaz's comedy Sex Tape.
Now for the top three in the countdown.
In second place is the Frank Grillo led sequel, The
Purge: Anarchy, which also stars Carmen Ejogo, Zach Gilford, Kiele Sanchez, Zoë
Soul, Justina Machado, Jack Conley, Michael K. Williams, Keith Stanfield, and
Castulo Guerra.
And in number one is Matt Reeve's Dawn of the Planet
of the Apes, which despite already surpassing it's production budget, takes a
50% drop in from last weekend, does it have legs to at least double what it
already gained? Let's hope, otherwise, bye, bye Apes 3.
