Marvel's streak of bad luck continues. After losing
director Edgar Wright yesterday, today it was Drew Goddard, who was supposed to
write and direct the first episode of the upcoming Daredevil series on Netflix.
Goddard was also attached as the Showrunner and Executive Producer of the
13-episode series, which will premiere in 2015 on Netflix.
Fortunately, and unlike the whole Edgar Wright/Ant-Man
situation, Marvel already found someone to take over. According to THR, Buffy
the Vampire Slayer alumni Steven S. DeKnight is already in negotiations to take
over the show.
Although nothing has been confirmed, it's safe to
assume that Goddard left so he can work on the Amazing Spider-Man spin-off
movie, Sinister Six. Goddard will remain attached to the series as a consultant.
DeKnight was the showrunner on three season of
Spartacus, an worked with Whedon on Angel and Buffy as well as Dollhouse and
Smallville.
UPDATE: Marvel is proud to announce that acclaimed
writer, director and producer Steven S. DeKnight ("Spartacus,"
"Buffy: The Vampire Slayer," "Angel") has joined
"Marvel's Daredevil" as Executive Producer & Showrunner on the
all-new 13-episode series premiering on Netflix in 2015. Drew Goddard, who also
wrote the first two episodes, will continue to serve as Executive Producer on
"Marvel"s Daredevil" as he writes and preps Sony's "The
Amazing Spider-Man" spin-off film, "The Sinister Six."
