THR, reports that comedians Michael Key and Jordan
Peele have signed on to produce New Line's Police Academy reboot. Director
Scott Zabielski was at one point attached to helm the reboot but has since departed.
The sketch comedy style of the film would fit nicely with Key and Peel's style
of comedy but at this time, it's unclear if they will or not star in the movie.
Paul Maslansky, who produced the original 1984 film is
also back for the reboot and here is what he had to say about the project.
“It’s going to be very worthwhile to the people who
remember it and to those who saw it on TV. It’s going to be a new class.
We hope to discover new talent and season it with great comedians. It’ll be
anything but another movie with a numeral next to it. And we’ll most probably
retain the wonderful musical theme.”
Police Academy is a seven-picture franchise that
followed a hilarious and not at all fitted for police work group of people in
their work to protect and serve.
On another note Key and Peele will return for a fourth
season of Key & Peele on Comedy Central and will make an appearance as FBI
agents in four episodes of the FX's Fargo series.
