The last time we heard anything about the sequel to I Am Legend was in 2007, but since then nothing, until now that is. In an interview to io9, screenwriter Akiva Goldman says that despite some ideas on how to proceed with the franchise, the sequel is not moving forward.
"Oh we tried, there were
scripts. We really tried… We wrote a prequel [and] a sequel. We had a really
interesting prequel, which was the first outbreak of the virus, during a
Thanksgiving Day parade, which was awesome. We did a really interesting prequel
that [took place] later. Which was right after the first… Really right when the
population of of humans became pretty decimated. And it was this sort of trek
to Washington. Which included a dark seeker elephant that had broken out of the
zoo."
I Am Legend is based on Richard
Matheson’s 1954 novel of the same name, starred Will Smith and grossed over
$585 million with a $150 million budget, and although there were some
criticisms regarding the look of the film and aspects of the film script, it’s unclear
what is the hold up.
