This is one of those projects that have been stuck in development hell for quite some time. An adaptation of John Wyndham’s classic sci-fi book The Day of the Triffids has been in the works for years, but now according to Deadline director Mike Newel has been tapped to helm the adaptation for Ghost House Pictures.
The Day Of The Triffids is set in
a post-apocalyptic Earth in which most of it inhabitants have been blind by a
comet shower, but those few that can see are forced to battle alien plants known
as Triffids who are determined in eradicating mankind.
Newell is probably best known for
his directorial efforts in Four Weddings and a Funeral, Donnie Brasco, Harry
Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Prince of Persia.
The Day Of The Triffids was
previously adapted, including a feature film in 1962 and a miniseries in 2009.
