The Weinstein brothers are no strangers to controversy, from money issues, legal disputes, or in the latest event, cutting 20 or so minutes from director Bong Joon-ho’s sci-fi film Snowpiercer, to make it more action driven for the English speaking countries. But there are always two sides to the same coin and this time producer Harvey Weinstein promises something big.
In a
recent appearance on The Howard Stern Show, the producer revealed that he is
working with actress Maryl Streep on a project that will take on the National
Rifle Association. After making some strong statements against the NRA, the
producer said “I’m going to make a movie with Meryl Streep, and we’re going to
take [gun rights] head-on. And [the NRA is] going to wish they weren’t alive
after I’m done with them.”
Weinstein said the project won’t
be a documentary, but a movie in the vein of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. He
says that he wants the audience to leave the theater thinking “Gun stocks – I
don’t want to be involved in that stuff.”
