We already posted the brief history
of the four characters that are coming in a new set of series that Marvel and
Netflix are intended on adapting to the small screen, Iron Fist (here), Luke
Cage (here), Jessica Jones (here) and Daredevil (here), now it’s time for the
final piece of the puzzle, the miniseries where all these characters will join
forces and form The Defenders.
The team’s history is at its
purest, since there are tons of arcs and stories in The Defenders comic book
run.
While trying to protect earth
from the Undying Ones, Dr. Strange manipulated Prince Namor and recruited the
Hulk to help him into fighting them off and thus The Defenders were borne.
The Defender’s rooster quickly
grew in numbers, mainly because of their informal set-up, with no permanent headquarters,
guides or laws and because any hero who would assist in any particular mission
was considered a member.
Among their current and reserve
members, The Defenders rooster counts with Dr. Strange, Namor, Hulk,
Moondragon, Iron Fist, Iceman, Daredevil, Colossus, Angel, Clea, Beast,
Hawkeye, Paladin, She-Hulk, Silver Surfer, Yellowjacket, Red Guardian, Luke
Cage, Polaris, Prowler, Marvel Man, White Tiger, Havok, Falcon, …
One of the things that differentiate
The Defenders from any other superhero teams like The Avengers or X-Men is that
the heroes are often at each other’s throats because of their unique way of
dealing with villains.
At this time it’s unclear how the
team will be formed since only Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones and
Daredevil will be getting tv series and not the team’s founding members.
