The last we heard Joseph Gordon-Levitt was rumored to be circling the title role in Warner Bros. adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Sandman. Now it seems that the actor is in the final negotiations to not only star in the adaptation but also produce and direct.
According to Deadline Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who made
his feature film debut with this year’s Don Jon, may return to the director’s
chair in Sandman, in addition star and produce alongside David S. Goyer.
Sandman was launched in 1989 and revolves around
Morpheus, who is the embodiment of dreams. Captured and held captive for 70
years, he suddenly escapes and seeks revenge against those who imprisoned him
and while trying to rebuild his fallen kingdom.
The character was created by Jack Kirby and Joe Simon
but Gaiman’s re-interpretation of the character was the most successful to
date, even appearing in the New York Times Bestseller list.
