Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter is preparing for the show’s final season, and is already planning a new one together with producer Brian Grazer. The two of them are teaming up to develop a pilot for a new drama series titled The Bastard Executioner. The show will center on one of King Edward III’s knights who is broken by war but must pick up the sword once again to fight. Sutter will write the script and production is set to begin late next year after Sons of Anarchy officially ends.
According to Deadline, FX has given the pilot order
for the show, which has Sutter, Grazer and Francie Calfo on as executive
producers.
“I love the network. I love the world. I love the
blood.”
FX’s Network CEO John Landgraf talked a little bit
more about the project and continuing to work with Sutter:
“[H]e has conceived a deep, provocative and
historically precise narrative journey into our Medieval past– and I have no
doubt The Bastard Executioner will be another remarkably original and gripping
series. We’re also thrilled to be in business with Brian Grazer who is one of
the most gifted film and television producers in the business.”
Grazer expanded more on the idea of The Bastard Executioner:
“I find the executioner to be an incredibly
fascinating and provocative character,” Grazer said. “He deals with the highest
order and the lowest order in the culture. It’s about as morally complex a
profession as you can imagine, and it is going to make for a spellbinding
series.”
