There have been quite a lot of rumors surrounding the next Star Trek installment. At one point directors Jon M. Chu (G.I. Joe: Retaliation), Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods) and Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) were rumored to be on Paramount’s short list of directors to helm the project, with Wyatt ultimately being the most talked about since both other parties announced no interest from the studio in them. Now however a new name rises among the ranks, director Joe Cornish from Attack the Block.
According
to Deadline both Paramount and Skydance Productions are interested in the
director to helm the third installment in the new Star Trek franchise.
Director
Edgar Wright who shot a scene for J.J. Abrams Star Trek Into Darkness, might
had something to do with the studios decision about Cornish, since him and
Cornish are frequent collaborators having co-written Marvel’s upcoming Ant-Man.
But
credit where credit is due, Cornish wrote and directed the 2011 cult hit Attack
the Block establishing himself as “new” talent on the market.
