Baz Luhrmann To Direct Stanley Kubrick Scripted Napoleon

The 2001 Artificial Intelligence: AI by director Steven Spielberg wasn’t the only project that polarizing director Stanley Kubrick left behind when he tragically passed away back in 1999. After shooting Eyes Wide Shut with Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, the director was developing AI but he was also in the works of trying to get the historical epic that chronicled the life of French Emperor Napoleon of the ground. The movie was never made because of the massive budget needed to tell the story, and despite Kubrick saying that it would be “the best film ever made” the studio didn’t budge, and the project seemed doomed to never see the light of day. Now however it seems that the project will get a new chance to live, with Steven Spielberg, who was a close friend of Kubrick, adapting the Napoleon script from feature to an HBO miniseries, and having director Baz Luhrmann directing it.

Per Deadline, HBO and Spielberg are talking to Luhrmann to direct what is being called HBO’s highest profile miniseries in history.
