The
Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science has selected 10 out of the
120 short films sent to the Best Live action Short Film Oscar
category. Gravity's 7 minute companion short, Aningaaq, directed by
Jonas Cuaron was expected to be in the finals but fell short (no pun
intended). Of the 10 selected for consideration only five will go to
the big part, after passing through the members of the Short Films
and Feature Animation branch of the Academy. The five selected will
be announced alongside all the other contenders in all the other
categories on January 16, 2014.
