Ridley Scott Updates On Prometheus Sequel

The last we heard from a Prometheus sequel was in the summer and writer Damon Lindelof had left the project and had been replaced by Jack Paglen (Transcendence) and since then there’s been no update on the project’s development, until recently when Scott broke the ice and gave an update on the film’s status.

While promoting his latest film, the also polarizing crime/thriller The Counselor, Scott said that the Prometheus sequel “is being written right now,” assumingly by Paglen, despite of any official confirmation.

Scott is expected to return to the director’s chair together with one of the producer’s, no doubt to keep a close eye on the whole thing and see if some of the mistakes made in the first film can be avoided.

Also expected to return is lead actress Noomi Rapace as Elizabeth Shaw. Rapace herself said that she already met with the director.

“They’re working on the script. I met Ridley in London a couple of weeks ago. I would love to work with him again and I know that he would like to do another one. It’s just like we need to find the right story. I hope we will.”

Michael Fassbender is also expected to return as the android David or at least his head, free from any responsibility to serve his creator, Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce).

The new rumor about Prometheus 2 is that actor Rik Barnett from Rebels Without a Clue has been approached by Ridley to play a key supporting role in the sequel, which a led to some speculation about the time jump between the first movie and the second installment.

The new film is rumored to take place in the Engineers home planet, Paradise (named in honor of John Milton’s Paradise Lost) and star Rapace and Fassbender has the leads in the film, the other possibility is to have a rescue mission sponsored by the Weyland Corporation to determine what happened to the crew of the first mission.

So far there isn’t an official scheduled as to when production should start on the Prometheus, because Scott still has his retelling of the Moses story in Exodus and the Blade Runner sequel, which is currently being written by Michael Green (Green Lantern) and has actor Harrison Ford in early stages of negotiations to return to his old character.

This then means that after Exodus is a race between Prometheus 2 and a Blade Runner sequel.
