After Alexander and W. director Oliver Stone has his sights on another historical figure, social rights activist Martin Luther King Jr. The film is set at DreamWorks and has the full support of King’s family.
Actor
Jamie Foxx, who previously worked with Stone on Any Given Sunday and has
experience with biopics (Ray) is currently in talks to star as King. So far it’s
unknown if the film will focus on a specific time in King’s life or like Ray it
will encompass all of King’s life.
This
will be a meet of opposites, meaning, as of late Stone has had some box-office
and critical problems (Savages) and Foxx on the other hand as come up after a
string of good but less amazing movies with Django Unchained and The Amazing
Spider-Man 2.
At
this point there are two other biopics being made about King’s life. One called
Selma by director Ava DuVernay, starring David Oyelowo as King and Memphis,
directed by Paul Greengrass, who unlike Stone doesn’t have the support of King’s
family, since it deals with King’s extramarital indiscretions.
