In
the 1970's, the real city of Metropolis in Illinois, rebranded itself
has being the real home town of Superman. At that time DC Comics who
helped with the rebranding by having a guy wearing George Reeves'
Superman suit and announcing the real Metroplis as the home of
Superman, had the idea to create a Superman theme park called Amazing
World of Superman.
The
park would have cost the city 50 million dollars, which transletes
roughly to 270,000,000 in todays dollar. Despite the large costs to
build the park, everything seamed to be going along, but everything
stoped when OPEC announced the embargo to the US as a form of
retaliation fot aiding Israel. The embargo raised the fuel prices
which in tern led to the uncertainty of the car fueled by oil.
Anyaway
the park didn't happened but some art of what the park should have
been did.
