If
you are a fan of the classic zombie movie genre, than this is not the film for
you. Marc Forster’s grand vision of World War Z seems to be out of balance,
because on one hand it’s epic on the other it lacks on the face to face action
that makes zombie films such eye pleasers. Throughout the film the sense of
scale is great, I mean there are hordes and hordes of CGI zombies everywhere,
and I mean everywhere, New York city, South Korea, Israel, Wales etc… it’s
candy for the eyes, but then when it’s time for the close up shoot of a zombie
devouring the nose for instance of a living victim, the great organization run
by overzealous parents kicks in and puts a stop to hit, so you never actually
get the visceral response that you usually get from watching a zombie flick.
You can’t make an effective zombie movie with the PG-13 label hanging around in
every scene, and that was the studio and Forster’s fault for trying to do a
thing that is for everyone, movies aren’t pop songs, they are not generic.
In
conclusion the CGI zombie hordes and overall visual look of the film looks
really great but it’s not a Romero film, not even close, so if you are a fan just
put on dvd and re-watch Night of the Living Dead.
World
War Z is directed by Marc Foster, starring Brad Pitt, Matthew Fox, Mireille Enos, Eric
West, David Morse and David Andrews and its schedule to hit the theaters
this summer.
