From
Black Hawk Down, to Star Trek: Nemesis, to Layer Cake, to Bronson, to
Inception, to Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, to Warrior, to The Dark Knight Rises
it seems Tom Hardy has the chops to pull off and with quality pretty much every
type of character in every type of movie there is, from die hard action to a
more personal drama. Now news of his involvement in The Outsider adds to that
pot. The story follows a former American soldier in a post-World War II Japan s
who becomes involved with the Japanese Mafia, the Yakuza.
With
such a good premise and with Hardy on as the American we assume, it seems the
film has what it takes to be one of the most highly anticipated projects of
next year, and it becomes more anticipated with the announcement of its
director.
Directing
the film and making its debut on the American stage is Takashi Miike, who
directed Ichi the Killer, 13 Assassins and Audition and flirted with the idea
of making a live action Afro Samurai feature. The general
occidental public
might not know who he is, but his works are fan favorites in Japan and
personally Ichi the Killer is brilliant.
Regarding
the Afro Samurai live action feature length big screen adaptation it seems to
have stalled.
The
Outsider is schedule to begin production in Japan in early 2014.
