With
Marvel Phase 2 just round the corner with Iron Man 3, schedule to premiere tomorrow
the 18 of April for some and for others late in May, many people (myself
included) are already thinking about Avengers 2 and how it is going to be, and although
we still have Iron Man 3, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Thor: The Dark
World and Guardians of the Galaxy, director and writer Joss Whedon is already
developing Avengers 2.
Whedon
said in January that the first draft of the movie should be done in couple of
months. Well that time has passed and we now know that Avengers 2 is already
schedule to start filming in early 2014, in the U.K.
In
an interview with Entertainment Tonight (via CBM), Whedon revealed the time schedule,
not holding back on other projects.
“We should start shooting I think in February… I didn’t think I
was gonna do the second one, but I had an idea for it before I had figured out
the first one. You go into a movie not assuming that there’s going to be
[another one]. I’ve seen plenty of movies that were the first part of the
trilogy that never happened and it’s terrible. You don’t save anything
for the trip back. Having said that, though, I did sort of know, ‘Well if
they were to come back, I know what’s going to happen… it’s going to be awful.’”
“I’m really excited [for Phase Two] because I’ve gotten to look at
everything and see behind the curtain on all the stuff, and Kevin Feige has a
really clear vision and runs through all these movies. They’re all very
different, but they really are what the next story should be.”
Well, although there isn’t an official line up for Avengers 2, we
can assume that at least Cap, Thor and Iron Man will be in it. With the appearances
of Falcon, Ant-Man and the S.H.I.E.L.D. tv show in the Marvel Universe we can’t
assume that all the original cast and characters will be returning. For
instance the Hulk, according to Whedon the character is a problem for a stand-alone
movie;
“It would be very, very hard,”
“Hulk is a tricky son of a bitch.”
“The problem is it’s a
very popular character, but it’s not a superhero. Half of it’s a superhero,
half of it’s a werewolf. And you can’t structure it like a superhero movie, you
can’t light it like a superhero movie.”
“How do you
develop that?” Whedon added. “It would be extremely difficult. The one thing
you would have in your favour would be Mark Ruffalo. But right now I don’t know if they have plans
to do that or not, because he works so well as part of a greater whole, but by
himself, it’s tough. I don’t envy the guys
who went before.”
